Neusa Hills: eco cabins above the Neusa reservoir, 1.5 hours from Bogotá

Cabins with reservoir views at 3,040 m, a farm-to-table restaurant, spa and ice baths. What it's like, 2026 prices and how to get there from Bogotá.

Neusa Hills is a small eco hotel on a hill above the Neusa reservoir, in the municipality of Tausa, about an hour and a half north of Bogotá. It has seven private cabins and two rooms, a restaurant that cooks with produce from local farms, a spa, and a list of activities that runs from horse rides around the reservoir to ice baths with a breathing workshop.

We worked with Neusa Hills on our own tours between 2022 and 2023. It was the base for our mountain bike rides around the reservoir, our arts and crafts days and our wellness weekends, and it’s still the place we recommend when someone asks for a cold-weather escape from Bogotá that feels far away without a long drive.

What it’s like

The cabins are spread across a slope facing the water, and almost all of them have a deck or balcony with a catamaran net you can lie on. Three have something extra: Adamá has a tub, Oasis and Vento have a jacuzzi, and Vento is a two-level chalet of about 120 m² with a sofa bed. The two rooms, Cielo and Nube, have fireplaces.

At almost 3,000 meters the light is sharp and the air is thin. Mornings are often clear, with mist sitting on the reservoir; afternoons can turn grey and cold quickly. It’s a place to slow down: walk, eat well, sit by the fire and sleep early.

What to do

The hotel publishes its experiences with prices (checked October 5, 2026):

Experience Price
Guided walk to the reservoir, with a short meditation COP 65,000 per person
Walk to the organic garden COP 40,000 per person
Horse ride around the reservoir (1 hour, guided) COP 350,000 per person
Ice bath with mobility and breathing workshop COP 280,000 per person
Wood-fired pizza workshop with the chef COP 120,000 per person
Sushi workshop COP 140,000 per person
Ceramics workshop COP 110,000 per person
Romantic dinner (three courses, private space) COP 260,000 per couple

The hotel also mentions ATV rides and bike tours, but doesn’t publish prices or details, so we confirm those case by case. On our old tours the bike loop around the reservoir took about an hour and a half at an intermediate level, with a few climbs above 3,100 m.

The restaurant, Tributo Cocina Origen, serves breakfast from 8:00 to 10:30 and lunch and dinner from noon to 8:00 p.m. There’s also a spa with massages and treatments; ask us for current prices.

Who it suits

Neusa Hills works well for couples, small groups of friends and anyone who wants a quiet weekend in the mountains with good food. It’s less suited to families with young children (Booking lists a minimum age of 15) or to travelers who want a lively village nearby: the closest towns, Tausa and Cogua, are small and a drive away.

If you’re coming from sea level, keep the first day easy. Bogotá already sits at 2,600 m, and Neusa is another 400 m higher.

How to get there

From Bogotá, the usual route goes north on the Autopista Norte toward Zipaquirá and then up to the reservoir through Cogua or Tausa. The hotel says one hour to an hour and a half (55 km from the northern toll), but Google Maps gives closer to two hours from downtown on a Saturday morning, so plan for that. There’s no direct public transport to the hotel, so most guests drive or book a transfer. We can help you arrange one.

How booking through us works

Send us your dates on WhatsApp or through the trip form. We check availability with the hotel, answer your questions and pass on your reference code. You confirm and pay Neusa Hills directly, at the same rate you’d find on their site. They pay us a commission.

Questions travelers ask

How cold is it at Neusa Hills?
Cold. The hotel sits at about 3,040 m and the reservoir area averages around 10 °C, colder at night. Bring a warm layer, a rain jacket and closed shoes. The two rooms have fireplaces and there's a bonfire area for guests.
Is breakfast included?
Yes. Room rates on the hotel's booking engine include an American-style breakfast, plus a welcome hot drink and a bonfire area with firewood.
Can I bring children or a dog?
Booking.com lists children from age 15 and pets allowed, sometimes with a surcharge. The hotel's own site doesn't say, so we confirm it with them when you send us your request.
Can I go for the day without staying the night?
The restaurant and the experiences (horse rides, guided walk to the reservoir, pizza or sushi workshops, ice bath) are sold separately, so a day visit is possible. Ask us and we'll check availability for your date.
Do I need a 4x4 to get there?
On our tours we took guests up in SUVs and vans, but we haven't confirmed the state of the road in 2026. Ask us before you go, especially in the rainy months (April–May and October–November).
